Case Study 3
Expense Management – Insourcing and Strategy
Large Pharmaceutical Company
The Challenge
BottomLine Group was engaged to help a Canadian client develop a new strategy for indirect procurement. The company had experienced the loss of a few key individuals in the procurement group and was also under-achieving against its global benchmark for performance. The global and local management teams of this large pharmaceutical company were demanding a significant improvement over a short period of time.
The key issue was finding the right thought leadership for the group and finding project management to drive key deliverables. The group was challenged by the time consuming burden of global administration procedures and poor relationships with internal customers.
The Approach
BottomLine Group was engaged to provide an interim Procurement Director and a Consultant to help the group catch-up on medium term tasks. The interim Director was able to quickly establish an 18-month point-of-arrival plan and a transition roadmap to reach this point. The plan included a re-organization of the structure and processes for the group and the identification of the right specifications for the permanent team members going forward. Additionally, a comprehensive category-by-category plan was developed to bring performance up to the optimal level for both cost management and internal customer satisfaction.
The Result: Cost Management and Employee Satisfaction
This unique combination of both interim staffing and consulting was a perfect solution for this client and resulted in many benefits including; improved internal customer relations, cost management, executive time management savings, and improved team morale. BottomLine Group assisted the client to hire permanent staff and continues to support special projects.
